Tumbled stones on a shore, pink against yellow against black, pressed together. Seksu is couscous in Amazigh; this checkered Berber runner packs its field like the grain: small tiles crowded together. Weavers once counted the grains out by eye. Zarbish knots it now.
The small tiles crowd the two ends and leave the middle to a single column of stepped crosses, one above the other. Up close the crosses are built in steps one knot wide, and the plain ground on either side is tied as densely as the tiles.
