A wild iris, three petals falling, three standing. Zouak is the painted ornament of a Moroccan ceiling, form over form, and this Boujaad runner brings that order to the floor. Weavers once painted with wool this way. Zarbish makes it now.
A thin axis of stacked diamonds and arrows runs the full length, one knot wide in places, and the lozenge around it is the calmest part of the surface. The lanterns at the four corners and the hourglass marks on the sides are tiny, each a few knots across.

Die Geschichte
Wie Zouak entstand
Ein wilder Iris, drei Blütenblätter hängend, drei aufrecht. Zouak nennt sich das bemalte Ornament marokkanischer Decken, Form über Form, und dieser Boujaad-Läufer legt diese Ordnung auf den Boden. Die Handwerker malten einst ohne Vorlage mit Wolle, Raute um Raute. Heute gibt Zarbish dem Muster seine Form, und geknüpft wird es weiter von Hand.
