About this rug

Stone slabs, cream and blush, seamed dark. Bejmat is the floor tile of Fez, and this sculpted Beni Mrirt runner makes that floor soft: raised squares, the grout cut low. Weavers once laid the ground from memory. Zarbish lays the tiles now.

Tone on tone, with no second color, the squares show by height alone, plus the thin shadow each one casts into the channel beside it. Four across, the grid runs the length in one pale wool.

How we made Bejmat
