What is a mosaic rug?

How do I style a rug with a tile pattern?

Treat it like a tiled floor: plain furniture around it, one or two colors pulled from the tiles, and no second busy pattern on the floor. It suits an eclectic room or a kitchen with zellige.

Is a floral rug too much for a modern room?

Not when the flowers sit in a grid: the rug reads as geometry from across the room and as flowers only up close. That order suits a modern room.

Will a patterned rug clash with my tiles or wallpaper?

Only at the same scale. Small wool tiles sit well beside big plain floor tiles or wide-stripe wallpaper, and fight another small mosaic.

Which rooms suit a mosaic rug, and which do not?

Kitchens, dining rooms, entries and eclectic living rooms, where pattern hides crumbs and grit; under plain bedding it gives a bedroom some pattern. Where a room wants calm above all, a plain solid does more.

Will a new wool rug shed?

A little, for the first weeks: it is loose fiber from knotting, not the rug wearing, and it settles with suction-only vacuuming. The care guide covers the rest.

Where are Mozaik rugs made?

In our workshop in the Middle Atlas. Zellige geometry lives on clean joins, so Mozaik is knotted tight enough to keep every tile distinct.

Can I customize a Mozaik rug?

Yes: set the size, and a round or a runner is composed so the tiles meet the edge whole. For your own palette, start your custom rug.

Inside the riad

A riad salon: zellige runs waist-high along the walls and across the floor, hand-cut tile in a tight diagonal, and above it, plain lime. Banquettes, brass lanterns, a carved arch. The tile does not cover the room; it frames it. Zarbish designs these rugs the way that salon is set: geometry where it counts, calm around it.

Mozaik or Dama

Mozaik and Dama share Berber heritage but use repetition differently. Dama grows from the checkerboard into freer, asymmetric squares; Mozaik sets zellige-like tiles and floral forms in color series. Dama's larger blocks hold their shape from across a room; Mozaik's smaller ones reward a closer look.
