About this rug
Figs ripe on the branch, the leaves gone pale. Karmous is figs in Moroccan Arabic, and this Berber round rug is the tree from below: pods of fruit filling the field. Weavers once hung figs like these in wool, from memory. Zarbish shapes it today.
The pods are set in staggered rows across the circle, and a few of them are tied in a cooler tone than the rest, which you only notice up close. The soft field between the pods is full, and the bound edge runs clean around the outer pods.
