How do I choose the right size and shape?

Size it to the furniture, not the floor: at least 18 in shows beyond the sides and foot of a bed, and under a dining table it runs 24 in (60 cm) past the edge. Aker comes in three shapes, Classic, Round and Runner, in a standard size or a custom size priced as you type. The size guide has plans room by room.

What do the bars on the squares of Aker do?

They cap each square. Soft squares sit in an even grid, each capped above and below by a short firm bar, so the pattern reads as a square, a cap and a repeat. On the round the squares gather around a center and tilt with the circle; on the runner they alternate down the length.

Is Aker hand-knotted, tile by tile?

Each tile is knotted by hand in 100% natural wool, color by color, densely enough that small blocks stay distinct instead of running together.

Aker earns its place as a runner in a hallway, since the pattern keeps scuffs and footprints from showing. A short or medium pile holds up to daily walking there. Try it in a kitchen and a bedroom as well.

How do the square edges read in each pile on Aker?

Accepted Answer

The edges stand a little proud of the ground, where a printed tile would stay flat. Short 0.4 in (1 cm) pile keeps the caps crisp. Medium 0.8 in (2 cm) softens the square edges further. Shag 1.2 in (3 cm) rounds the squares and caps into soft blocks.

How do I keep Aker looking fresh?

Small tiles hide crumbs and grit well, so weekly vacuuming with suction only does most of the work, and it also lifts the loose fiber new wool lets go of in its first weeks. Blot spills with cool water from the edge inward, never rub, and skip steam and carpet foam. The care guide has the full routine.
