Lightly, on the rectangle: small squares and blocks sit in a loose checker inside a strict stepped frame, so the middle feels lived in while the edge stays firm. The round is a single stepped medallion, and the runner a checkerboard with a central column.

Is Fondouk hand-knotted, tile by tile?

Each tile is knotted by hand in 100% natural wool, color by color, densely enough that small blocks stay distinct instead of running together.

Fondouk earns its place as a runner in a hallway, since its pattern forgives the daily foot traffic. Short or medium pile wears best there, and lies flat under shoes. Try it in a kitchen as well.

They hold best in short 0.4 in (1 cm) pile, where the small squares and the steps of the frame stay crisp. Medium 0.8 in (2 cm) softens the loose checker while the frame stays clear. In shag 1.2 in (3 cm) the small squares become flecks and the solid bands show the pile most.

How do I keep Fondouk looking fresh?

Small tiles hide crumbs and grit well, so weekly vacuuming with suction only does most of the work, and it also lifts the loose fiber new wool lets go of in its first weeks. Blot spills with cool water from the edge inward, never rub, and skip steam and carpet foam. The care guide has the full routine.
