Todra Striped and Bordered Beni Ourain Rug

A slot in the rock, sand underfoot. The Todra gorge is cut like this, and this striped Beni Ourain rug stacks the walls in bars, the floor a wide column between. Weavers once stacked these bars from memory. Zarbish makes it today.

The bars are tied in a dense, deep wool and the gaps between them in the pale ground, each gap a single row of knots, so the stripes look ruled from a distance and hand-set up close. The wide column down the middle is a lighter wool than the bars.
