About this rug

Mud cracked into plates, each its own shape. Akal is earth in Amazigh; this sculpted Beni Mrirt runner brings it inside: plates of raised wool, the cracks carved to the base. Weavers once knotted the field plain, from memory. Zarbish carves it today.

A regular chain of diamonds runs down the center, each one a soft raised mound, with half diamonds and fan shapes along the edges, and the channels between them are wide, flat and pale. The runner reads as a path of stones.

How we made Akal
