Tirra Checkered Moroccan Rug

A coral fritillary, a checkerboard on every petal. Tirra is writing in Amazigh, and this checkered Berber rug reads like a page: squares where the hand hurried, bars where it slowed. Weavers once kept the page by heart. Zarbish makes it now.

The deep squares are tied in a wool that holds the light and the lighter ones in a wool that gives it back, so the checker flickers as you move around it. At the edges the squares stretch into bars, tied in the same deep wool, and the ground shows through between them.
