About this rug
Whitewashed steps between a navy wall and bougainvillea. Zellige is the cut tile of Morocco, and this checkered Berber rug lays it in wool, each square a little its own, joins showing. Weavers once copied the walls around them. Zarbish knots it today.
The blocks have soft, jagged edges where one wool meets the next, so each tile looks hand-cut rather than ruled. The side bands are mottled, deeper in some patches than others, tied in a wool that keeps its sheen.
