Tirra Checkered Moroccan Rug

The fritillary writes its own pattern, a checkerboard. Tirra is writing in Amazigh, and this checkered Berber rug reads like a page: squares where the hand hurried, bars where it slowed. Weavers once kept the page by heart. Zarbish makes it now.

The ground between the squares is a lighter wool that shows as thin channels, wider toward the edges and almost closed at the middle. Each block has a soft edge where its tufts lean over the channel beside it.
