Tirra Checkered Moroccan Runner

The fritillary writes its own pattern, a checkerboard. Tirra is writing in Amazigh, and this checkered Berber runner reads like a page: squares where the hand hurried, bars where it slowed. Weavers once kept the page by heart. Zarbish makes it now.

The checker runs the length in even rows and opens into upright bars at both ends, like a sentence that starts and ends with a tall letter. The squares are tied with a thin lighter line between them, a single knot wide, that keeps each one separate.
