Tirra Round Checkered Moroccan Rug

The fritillary writes its own pattern, a checkerboard. Tirra is writing in Amazigh, and this checkered Berber round rug reads like a page: squares where the hand hurried, bars where it slowed. Weavers once kept the page by heart. Zarbish makes it now.

Cross-shaped blocks interlock with squares near the center and then thin out, so the pattern fades toward the rim and the last blocks sit alone on open ground. The open ground is the fullest wool on the rug and takes up most of the circle.
