About this rug

Whitewashed steps between a navy wall and bougainvillea. Zellige is the cut tile of Morocco, and this checkered Berber round rug lays it in wool, each square a little its own, joins showing. Weavers once copied the walls around them. Zarbish knots it today.

The checker is gathered into one medallion whose edge flares into points, each point stepped out of the grid rather than cut across it. The ground around it is mottled, and its tufts lean toward the rim, so the medallion sits in a soft halo of changing tone.
