Ordering from Morocco

A made-to-order rug from Zarbish is paid in full at checkout, confirmed in writing for size before weaving starts, then hand-knotted in our workshop in the Middle Atlas of Morocco. Production runs three to eight weeks depending on size. Shipping is free worldwide and delivery takes three to seven business days after production. US customers pay no import duties.

The path

Nothing is woven before you order, which is the whole point and also why the timeline differs from a warehouse purchase. You choose a design, a size, a pile height and whether you want tassels. We confirm the dimensions with you in writing. Weavers put it on the loom, wash it, finish it, check it and roll it, so it arrives ready to use, and it ships with tracking and its numbered Craft Record in the box.

Before weaving starts

1. You order the design and size and pay in full at checkout. No deposits, no balance later.
2. You confirm the exact dimensions in writing, which is your record and your protection on a custom size. Handwork carries a finishing tolerance of 3 to 4 cm (about 1.2 to 1.6 in).
3. For a fully custom design, we send a visual mockup and you approve it in writing before production. Your first mockup comes within 1 hour during our working hours, or within 1 hour of our next opening.
4. Once a custom design is approved, the piece is made to that design, so it cannot be cancelled, returned or exchanged. Start at custom design if that is the route you want.

Weeks by size

The weeks scale with the size of the piece, not with how busy the workshop is, because a hand-knotted rug is built row by row across its full width: a wider rug means a longer row, a longer rug means more of them. That is also the honest answer on price. Natural wool, hand-knotting and the weeks of a weaver's time are what you pay for, and the comparison that matters is the decades the piece stays in a room. Is it worth it?

The question under every other one is whether a rug like this is worth it. The price buys natural wool, a weaver's weeks at the loom, and a piece knotted to your room rather than trimmed to it. The comparison that matters is not a machine-made rug's price tag but its lifespan: wool like this ages instead of wearing out, and it stays in a room for decades. Duties and shipping

Shipping is free worldwide, on every order, from Morocco. US customers pay no import duties: the price at checkout is final and nothing is due at the door. Outside the US, duties and VAT are the buyer's responsibility and are set by your customs authority, not by us. Typical estimates: the EU and the UK, VAT plus roughly 2.5 to 4% duty; Canada, roughly 8 to 10% duty plus GST or HST; Australia, duty-free under AUD 1,000 with GST possible above it; the UAE, 5% duty plus 5% VAT, which applies at our prices. We cannot ship to P.O. boxes, and an address cannot change once a piece has shipped. The country detail is in will I pay import duties.

Making it right

A standard size can be returned within 30 days of delivery, with no restocking fee and no deductions. Return shipping is yours if the reason is a change of mind or the wrong size ordered, and ours if the piece arrived damaged or wrong. Custom sizes and custom designs are not returnable, and each has its own confirmation step instead, so you know exactly what is being made before it is made. If a piece arrives damaged, you choose a replacement or a full refund; photographs help us improve, and they are never a condition for fixing it. For designers and hosts

If you are specifying for clients rather than for your own floor, the trade program runs on the same production path with same-day review, every day, and applications answered within one business day, usually within hours. Custom dimensions use the same rate as the catalog tables, priced by the same formula as the catalog.

The choice is about the room, not about what sits in a warehouse. Tichka draws a black lattice across ivory wool for a living room that needs a line.
