About this rug

A frozen lake cracked into indigo plates. A hamada is the desert's stone plateau, and this sculpted Beni Mrirt round rug lifts the same: raised blocks of pile over a clipped ground. Weavers once knotted the level ground. Zarbish raises the blocks today.

The circle is one deep tone to the rim, bound in the same wool, and the blocks show only as steps in the surface, each one a shade lighter where its tips catch the light. The ground is clipped close.

How we made Hamada
