About this rug

A band of red on pink ground. Kermez is the checked cloth of the Rif, and the checkered Berber round rug keeps the check to the edge: a band round a plain center. Weavers once tied the check by heart. Zarbish makes it now.

The checker ring is tied in wedge-shaped squares that narrow toward the center, so the grid bends with the circle without a seam. Inside it the open wool is full and even, and it darkens slightly on the side the pile leans away from.
