Palette from the fleece

Beni Ourain weavers once worked far from the dye markets of the plains, so the flock gave them their palette: the fleece itself, crossed by a few dark lines. That restraint is why every line counts. Zarbish keeps it, and lets one mark hold the room.

The winter flock

A herder walks the flock through snowy cedars, a dog at his heel, the sheep in their full winter fleece. That fleece is where a Beni Ourain rug begins, high in the Atlas: wool thick enough for the cold, with bold lines knotted into it that the weavers once kept from memory.
