What kind of rug is best for a living room?

Size the rug to the seating, not the floor: a sofa of 84 to 96 in takes an 8x10 ft, a sectional usually a 9x12 ft. For a calm room, look at fine lines or carved texture, and for color at freehand marks, checks or tiles.

Which pile height works best for wool area rugs in a living room?

Medium suits most living rooms: soft to sit on, firm enough for a coffee table to stand level.

Should a living room rug have tassels?

Yes, where the ends lie in open floor; leave them off where a robot vacuum runs daily or a door passes over an end. They add about 4 in (10 cm).

Where does a rug let a living room down?

A rug too small to reach the sofa, shag in the path between two doors, and a pale field by the patio door, where grit comes in first. Size up, keep shag where people sit, and put pattern where feet arrive from outside.

Will a wool rug shed all over my living room?

A little, for the first weeks: spare fiber from knotting, more on shag, not the rug wearing thin. It settles with suction-only vacuuming; the care guide covers the rest.

What rug color works with a gray or green sofa?

A gray sofa takes almost anything warm, and a green sofa wants pink, coral or rust beside it. The couch color guide covers the rest.

Why does my living room feel unfinished?

Usually because the floor is bare, so the sofa and chairs float with nothing holding them together. A rug under the front legs of every seat gathers the room; what is my living room missing runs through the other culprits, lamps first.

How big should a rug in a small living room be, and is a 5x7 enough?

Only for a loveseat or two chairs with their front legs on it. In most small living rooms a 5x7 ft floats in the middle and makes the room look smaller, while a 6x9 ft that reaches under the seating opens it up. Is my rug too small shows the test.

The room's softest ground

The living room rug is the biggest soft surface in the house, and the one that sees the most life. Children play on it, guests slip off their shoes, and long evenings end on the floor beside it. Hand-knotted wool takes all of that and softens with use.
