How do I choose a rug for a kids room?

Size the rug to the play, a 5x8 ft for one child or an 8x10 ft for a shared room, in short or medium pile. A pattern hides spills, whether it's bold color, checks or small tiles.

Which pile height suits a playroom floor?

Short if the floor is for building, so blocks stand up and toy cars roll; medium if it is for lying on with a book. Skip shag, where small pieces vanish.

Will tassels survive a kids room?

Most parents leave them off: tassels get pulled and chewed, and they tangle in robot vacuums. If you want the look, keep them on a rug under a bed or a reading chair.

Which designs suit a bright kids room?

Colors that stay cheerful as the room grows up. Bold freehand color brings pure joy, a checkerboard suits a child who likes order, and a tile pattern fits a shared room.

Is a wool rug a good floor for a child to play on?

A very good one: wool is springy, so knees land soft, and the natural dyes are fixed, so color does not rub off on hands. Vacuum through the first weeks, while new wool sheds, before a baby crawls on it.

How do you deal with juice, paint or crayon on a wool rug?

Blot juice at once from the edge inward with cool water, never rub; let paint, mud or crayon dry, then lift it gently and vacuum. If a washable rug tempts you, wool against polyester compares the two. If a dog or cat shares the floor, wool rugs and pets covers shedding and stains.
